Encyclopedia & MS Word practice
Introduction:
We publish many research reports using MS Word it is important to know how to use it properly. It is also important to know what resources you can use for reports. We will be practicing the Word skills you learned last year to create a flyer and learning how to use the World Book Encyclopedia for research. Word and computer skills to be used are:
Task:
I. Experiment with text and visual media to create products
II. Use technology applications to create documents and visualizations of new learning_
III. Save a document (save as)
IV. Open and modify and existing document
V. Combine text, print and draw as part of a project
VI. Log onto a network
VII. Use both hands to type, keep them on the correct side of the keyboard, and use proper finger positioning
IIX. Insert/position graphics into a document
IX. Resize graphics in a document
X. Inserts and edits text to form a punctuated sentence
XI. Form simple questions and begin to explore ways to answer them
XII. Select and use appropriate sources, including encyclopedias
Week 1:
Introduction and demonstration of encyclopedia by Miss Nieznay. Exit ticket - Explain to a friend how to find information in the encyclopedia.

Week 2:
Choose your topic and write questions you would like to research. Practice finding information in an encyclopedia and keep track of your answers.
Exit ticket - explain to a friend the difference between broad and narrow questions.
Week 3:
Introduce Word skills and saving to the Z drive with Miss Nieznay. Exit ticket - explain to a friend how to save to the Z drive.
Week 4:
Introduce images in Word. Exit ticket - explain to a friend how to create a split screen.
Week 5:
Begin researching your topic and introduce using a split screen on the computer and tabs. Using Word skills create a poster/ebook about your topics
Conclusion:
We all need to find information. Using an encyclopedia is one choice and it should be used when you are beginning your research. Keeping track of your information in a Word document makes it easier to find and create final products.
