Using the library
While library organization, and independently choosing books for personal use are all a major part of library class, we do a great deal to support the general classroom education in a number of ways. Working with the alphabet and sight words supports Language Arts Standards in regards to independent reading. Storytime and book discussions allow students the opportunity to find new books they like, experience different genres, and build reading skills. Introducing kindergarten students to basic technology skills readies students for class work. Your student is exposed to the mouse and keyboard as interactive tools which navigate through educational websites and programs. Kindergarten students are introduced to the basic functions found on all websites, such as scroll bars, back buttons, and closing procedures. The two main websites used to teach these concepts are:
ABC Mouse Student Home
Starfall
Kindergarten students experience the library as a multi-media, multi-sensory, multi-learning environment, geared toward helping your student succeed in the 21st century.
